Unit 3 - 3D work
I've already blogged about the 2D part of Unit 3 but in the unit there is also 3D work involved. The 3D work was about technical measured drawings using perspective.
So we were looking at single point perspective, double point perspective etc.
We did technical drawings at the beginning of the unit to learn about perspective and measured drawings and we started to look at a chair. Firstly drawing out the net of all the face the chair has so we know all the information that needs to be shown depending on the angle the chair will be drawn. After that I then drew the chair in the box shape that we learnt about to show perspective. These tasks were a bit difficult at first but once i understood how to draw the chair correctly it was much more simple. However I think if I was too do this task again with something other than a chair it could be a bit more complicated; so I'm not sure that this would be something I would like to do again.

In the unit we went out the college to the local cathedral and surrounding areas to do some one point and two point perspective drawings. I liked doing this as it was nice to go out and draw something different and once I had gotten down the horizon line and vanishing point and mapped out where the buildings I was drawing would be it was a simple and fun task. For the one point perspective drawing we went inside the cathedral to draw as it was the perfect location for doing a perspective drawing like this. On another day we went to choose a different location nearby to draw a one point perspective drawing I chose the outside of the cathedral with surrounding buildings round it. It was difficult at first to find the right place to draw. I really liked drawing this and once the drawing in my sketchbook was finished I turned it into a bigger piece using charcoal. I really like how this turned out and I enjoyed using the charcoal to draw with. Just like with the one point perspective drawing we did one that showed two point perspective. I again drew this in my book with pencil then once I had finished I decided what to use when I turned it into a A2 piece. I chose to do a pencil drawing as it's something I've always liked doing and I although I enjoyed working with charcoal,I didn't want to use it again this time. I'm really happy with how both these turned out and it helped me decide on what materials I like to use as well.
My favourite things to do in the unit are the drawings outside and when we turned them into bigger pieces using charcoal and pencil. I enjoyed doing these tasks and I was happy with how it turned out. Although once I had gotten used to doing the technical measured drawings they were relatively easy, I didn't enjoy doing them and it's not something I would want to do again in the future. I have found this unit to be helpful as doing technical measured drawings using perspective wasn't something I had done before, so I did learn something new but I really only enjoyed the parts where we drew buildings in perspective and used charcoal etc. as it wasn't as complicated.
